Ginger Tea

Here in Ireland, we have been trapped in our homes over the past week while the Beast from the East and then Storm Emma battered our green isle leaving snow drifts up to 6 feet in place. As farmers and food manufacturers struggled to make deliveries, bread  became the most valued commodity and most of us, including myself ate way to much of it. This week is all about undoing the damage, getting back to healthy eating and exercise.

This ginger tea is the perfect antidote to the inactivity and excess of last week. Ginger is an ancient spice that contains a number of valuable compounds. One in particular is gingerol which has been found to be anti-inflammatory and a natural remedy for nausea as well as an effective digestive aid ().  Add it to drinks to relieve symptoms such as constipation and bloating (). It can also helps fight fungal and bacterial infections () and can breakdown the accumulation of toxins in the organs (). It is super in cold weather for keeping us warm and it also helps balance blood sugar levels in the body ().

To make this delicious tea, you will need:

1 heaped teaspoon of fresh grated ginger per person

1 cup of hot water per person

  • Stir the grated ginger into the hot water and let it steep for 5 minutes
  • Strain the liquid through a sieve/tea strainer to remove the ginger
  • Pour and Enjoy!
